Each year I feel a bit of melancholy to see LBC’s class come to an end. I think about all the impressive people and impactful moments the class shared and wonder if that great experience can happen anew. Unsurprisingly, the 2021 class members are nothing less than stunning. All 40 members have chosen to participate in a class like no other LBC has ever undertaken: (1) It is a hybrid class with some in-person and mostly virtual participants; (2) The session will be completed in six months instead of ten; and (3) The class is meeting twice per month instead of once per month. These differences increase the challenges for participants and staff alike.
Despite the challenges, this class has stepped up to the plate and is batting a thousand (Opening Day is coming soon!). On Maryland State Government Day, the class engaged in debates on three different bills. They had two days to read the bill and develop their arguments for or against the bill, regardless of their personal opinions. Each debate was well researched and included data and convincing arguments on both sides. I was incredibly impressed with the energy and brilliance they brought to the lively debates – especially with such short preparation time. That’s what leaders do, though.
The class members have recently completed their 360 assessment and are in the midst of their executive coaching sessions to debrief their reports and create action plans. I have already heard from several class members how valuable this leadership growth aspect of LBC’s program is. We will keep you posted about this unprecedented year and its prodigious members. Read on to learn more about the 2021 class members. In the meantime, suffice it to say, melancholy has morphed into feeling energized by the class!
Believe it or not, it is that time of the year to nominate people for the Class of 2022. We anticipate the class running from September 2021 – June 2022 for the normal ten-month, one-day-per-month cycle. Who do you know that would both learn a great deal and make valuable contributions to the LBC experience? Our referral program is on! See the article about who won last year’s prize for nominating candidates.
With warmest regards,
